Ingredients
- 1 loaf Pasquier Sliced Brioche (17.6 ounces)
- 4 tablespoons melted butter
- 4 eggs
- 2 1/4 cups milk (2% or whole)
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest
- 2 cups assorted fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
- For lemon butter sauce: 3/4 cup sugar, 6 tablespoons butter, 2 tablespoons water, 1 large egg (beaten), and 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F.
- Cut the brioche into 1-inch cubes and toast on a baking sheet until lightly golden.
- In a large bowl, combine toasted bread with melted butter.
- In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and lemon zest until smooth.
- Lightly grease an 8 x 8 inch or 9 x 9 inch baking dish.
- Layer half of the bread in the dish followed by half of the berries; repeat the layering.
- Pour custard mixture over the layers and gently press down to submerge.
- Bake uncovered for about 45–50 minutes until set and golden brown.
- Allow cooling for at least 20 minutes before serving.
