  • 1 loaf Pasquier Sliced Brioche (17.6 ounces)
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups milk (2% or whole)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest
  • 2 cups assorted fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • For lemon butter sauce: 3/4 cup sugar, 6 tablespoons butter, 2 tablespoons water, 1 large egg (beaten), and 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. Cut the brioche into 1-inch cubes and toast on a baking sheet until lightly golden.
  3. In a large bowl, combine toasted bread with melted butter.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and lemon zest until smooth.
  5. Lightly grease an 8 x 8 inch or 9 x 9 inch baking dish.
  6. Layer half of the bread in the dish followed by half of the berries; repeat the layering.
  7. Pour custard mixture over the layers and gently press down to submerge.
  8. Bake uncovered for about 45–50 minutes until set and golden brown.
  9. Allow cooling for at least 20 minutes before serving.
