- 60 ml milk
- 120 ml water
- 21 g active dry yeast
- 50 g sugar
- 550 g Manitoba flour
- 2 eggs
- 70 g unsalted butter
- 750 ml vegetable oil, for frying
- 80 g sugar (for coating)
- 40 g powdered sugar (for coating)
- 10 g vanilla sugar (for coating)
- 350 g Chocolate Spread
- 360 g apricot jam
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine lukewarm milk, water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- In a stand mixer, mix flour, eggs, salt, and the yeast mixture. Knead on low then medium speed for about 6-8 minutes until elastic. Add butter and knead for another 3-4 minutes.
- Cover the dough and let it rise at room temperature until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- Roll out the dough to about 2 cm thick and cut heart shapes using a cookie cutter. Allow them to rise again for approximately 1 hour.
- Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan and fry each doughnut until golden brown on both sides.
- Coat warm doughnuts in a sugar mixture and fill with your choice of jam or chocolate spread.
