Ingredients
- 12 cups cubed French bread
- 3 pears, peeled and diced
- 5 eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tsp ground cardamom (divided)
- Kosher salt
- Optional toppings: raw turbinado sugar, whipped cream
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a mixing bowl, combine cubed bread, diced pears, brown sugar, and 1 tsp ground cardamom.
- Whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, remaining cardamom, and salt in another bowl until blended. Pour over the bread mixture and let soak for 15 minutes.
- Grease a baking dish with butter and transfer the soaked mixture into it. If desired, sprinkle raw turbinado sugar on top.
- Bake for about 60 minutes until golden brown and set in the center.
- Serve warm with a drizzle of homemade cardamom syrup.
