Ingredients
- 3 organic oranges
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup sugar (plus extra for coating)
- 1 vanilla bean (optional)
- Chocolate (optional)
Instructions
- Wash the oranges thoroughly using a vegetable brush.
- Score each orange peel with four lengthwise cuts and slice off both ends.
- Remove the peel sections and cut into 1/4-inch wide strips.
- Blanch the peels in boiling water twice, draining each time.
- Simmer peels in 2 cups water and 1 cup sugar for about 30-35 minutes until slightly translucent.
- Cool in syrup for 5 minutes before transferring to a drying rack.
- Allow to dry for at least 8 hours (ideally up to 24 hours).
- Optionally coat in sugar or dip in melted chocolate before serving.
