Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef chuck or stew meat, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced (plus extra for naan)
- 1 inch piece fresh ginger, grated
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup coconut milk or whole milk
- 1 tbsp curry powder
- 1 tbsp garam masala
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp chili powder (optional)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Fresh cilantro, chopped, for garnish
- Cooked basmati rice, for serving
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the beef cubes with salt, black pepper, and half of the garlic. Let it marinate while you prepare other ingredients.
- In a cast iron pot or Dutch oven, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until they are soft and golden brown. Stir in the remaining minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking until fragrant.
- Add in tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, beef broth, and coconut milk (or whole milk). Mix well. Then stir in curry powder, garam masala, cumin, coriander powder, turmeric, chili powder (if using), salt, and black pepper. Bring to a gentle simmer.
- Add marinated beef to the pot. Cover and let it simmer on low heat for about 1.5 to 2 hours or until beef is tender. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Gradually add warm water while kneading until you form a soft dough. Allow it to rise for about an hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven at high temperature (around 475°F). Divide risen dough into four equal portions. Roll each portion into an oval shape using a rolling pin.
- Place rolled-out naan on a baking sheet. Sprinkle with minced garlic if desired. Bake in the preheated oven for about 8-10 minutes until puffed and lightly golden.
- Once cooked, remove naan from the oven and brush with melted butter if desired. Serve hot alongside your flavorful Indian-Style Beef Curry garnished with fresh cilantro over cooked basmati rice.
