- 1 large onion
- 6 garlic cloves
- 2 tbsp dried oregano
- 1 tbsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp dried rosemary
- 2 tsp dried marjoram
- 2 tsp cumin
- 3 tsp salt
- 2 tsp black pepper
- Oil (for cooking)
- Pitas
- Lettuce (sliced)
- Tzatziki
- Tomatoes (sliced)
- Red onions (sliced)
- Feta cheese (crumbled)
- French Fries (optional)
Instructions
- Puree onion and garlic in a food processor until smooth.
- In a stand mixer, combine ground meats with pureed onion, garlic, and spices until paste-like.
- Optionally refrigerate the mixture for enhanced flavor.
- Preheat oven to 325°F and prepare a foil-lined baking tray.
- Shape meat into a log and wrap with foil; insert a skewer through the center.
- Bake for about 1.5 hours or until internal temperature reaches 160°F.
- Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing thinly.
- Crisp slices in a skillet over medium-high heat before serving.
- Assemble your gyro with pitas and desired toppings.
- Roll up tightly and serve.
