- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 large egg (beaten)
- 1 cup unsulfured molasses
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup very hot water
- Bananas (for topping)
- Fresh whipped cream (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with cooking spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the sugar and butter together until smooth.
- Add the beaten egg and molasses to the mixture, blending until fully combined.
- In a separate bowl, mix the dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt.
- Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture, stirring until incorporated. Slowly add the hot water until smooth; expect a thin batter.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow cooling slightly before serving warm with sliced bananas and whipped cream.
