- 4 cups all-purpose flour

- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

- 1/2 cup warm whole milk
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup softened unsalted butter

- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp red food coloring (gel or liquid)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp salt (for filling)
- 8 oz softened cream cheese (for frosting)
- 1/4 cup softened unsalted butter (for frosting)
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
- Pinch of salt (for frosting)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk and water; stir in yeast and let sit until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Add yeast mixture, butter, eggs, red food coloring, and vanilla extract; mix until combined.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl and cover; let rise for one hour.
- Prepare the filling by mixing softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a separate bowl.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle; spread the filling evenly over it.
- Roll tightly from one end to another; slice into equal pieces and place in a greased baking sheet.
- Cover again and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for about 25 minutes until golden brown.
- For frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until creamy; gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Once cooled slightly, frost generously before serving.
