Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp corn syrup
- 5 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 loaf French bread
Instructions
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup until bubbly and thickened (3-4 minutes). Pour into a baking dish.
- Slice the French bread into 1-inch pieces and layer them over the caramel mixture in the baking dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, salt, and optional cinnamon until smooth. Pour over the bread slices, pressing down gently.
- Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight or for at least 4 hours.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Let sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes before baking for 35-40 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving. Invert each slice so caramel side faces up and enjoy warm.
