Ingredients
- 16 oz loaf of French bread
- 3 ¾ cups whole milk
- 1 ½ cup heavy cream
- 7 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 ¼ cup sugar
- Optional: zest of half an orange
Instructions
- Slice the French bread into one-inch cubes.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the whole milk, heavy cream, eggs, vanilla extract, and sugar until smooth.
- Fold in the bread cubes gently until fully soaked. Allow to sit for at least 15 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
- Pour the soaked mixture into the prepared dish and spread evenly.
- Bake for about 120 minutes or until set and golden brown on top.
- Let cool slightly before serving; drizzle with vanilla sauce if desired.
