- 4 large egg yolks
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together warm milk, eggs, and melted butter until combined.
- Gradually add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms; knead for about 10 minutes.
- Let the dough rise in a greased bowl covered with a damp cloth until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- For the cream filling, heat milk with sugar in a saucepan; whisk egg yolks and cornstarch together.
- Temper the egg mixture with hot milk, then cook until thickened; stir in vanilla extract and butter.
- Roll out the risen dough and cut out circles; let them rest for another 30 minutes before frying at 350°F (175°C) until golden brown.
- Fill cooled bomboloni with pastry cream using a piping bag and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
